JerseyConnect is proud to introduce our cloud storage service, an exciting new service designed to meet one of libraries’ most highly-rated needs.

This article will introduce you to JerseyConnect cloud storage and provide a few examples of ways your library can benefit from this new service!

JerseyConnect cloud storage service overview

JerseyConnect cloud storage is intended to complement your library’s existing backup strategy with robust offsite storage in our secure facilities. Your library’s allocation of space can be used to hold system backups, database dumps, or just important files. The size of the allocation is such that, with proper management, you can have multiple points in time available to restore.

JerseyConnect cloud storage is NOT provided for use as a collaboration platform, or for static content hosting for a website.

Web interface

Access to JerseyConnect cloud storage is primarily through a rich web interface, provided by FileRun. This interface allows you to manage all your library’s files and is designed to be intuitive to any library administrator.

Multiple ways to upload files within the web interface

A robust set of actions for files stored in JerseyConnect cloud storage

WebDAV interface

For enhanced integration with scheduled backup programs and other automation tools, JerseyConnect cloud storage offers a WebDAV interface to your library’s storage pool. This open standard protocol can be used with all major operating systems and many scripting and programming languages.

Here is the connection info you’ll need to connect to you JerseyConnect cloud storage pool:

Hostname: http://storage.jerseyconnect.net/dav.php/ (make sure to include the trailing slash)

Username: your JerseyConnect cloud storage username

Password: your JerseyConnect cloud storage password

That’s all you need!

Desktop programs

In addition to any WebDAV-compatible client, JerseyConnect cloud storage can be used with the Sync and HotFolders applications provided by FileRun.

Please refer to the vendor documentation available at the links posted above for more information on these two programs.

JerseyConnect is announcing new services for 2012! Email accounts are getting extra space, and introducing JerseyConnect cloud storage and the redesigned JerseyConnect web site!

Email Account Size Increased

Effective February 20, 2012, the disk space limit for all JerseyConnect hosted email accounts will be raised to 1GB per account.

JerseyConnect Cloud Storage Service

JerseyConnect is also pleased to announce a cloud storage service, available starting February 20, 2012. This service is available to complement a library’s existing backup strategy with storage at a remote site. Each library is entitled to 100 GB of space, regardless of use of any other JerseyConnect services.

Please note JerseyConnect cloud storage is provided as a self-managed backup solution and is not designed to host data for user access. As a self-managed service, periodic backups will not be maintained and deleted files cannot be restored by JerseyConnect staff – it is your backup.

Highlights:

100 GB of cloud storage available to any library, regardless of use of any other JerseyConnect services

Convenient web interface, with WebDAV support and a suite of desktop tools available (see http://www.filerun.com for details)

For a demonstration of the service go to http://storage.jerseyconnect.net and login with – username: demo, password: d3m0pass.

To request your cloud storage space, just open a HelpDesk case and the JerseyConnect staff will be happy to get you set up.

JerseyConnect is Getting Social

You can now keep up with changes at JerseyConnect from your favorite social media account. Check the JerseyConnect website for details!

Finally, come join the customer forums on the redesigned JerseyConnect website. These forums are available for JerseyConnect customers to discuss their experience with JerseyConnect’s services, along with any issues affecting libraries in New Jersey. You can use your HelpDesk credentials or JerseyConnect email address and password to log in – no registration required!

Please note that the forums are not moderated or monitored by JerseyConnect staff, and are not a substitute for the HelpDesk system.

SmarterMail — the JerseyConnect email platform — has a few options that control how vacation messages or auto responses work.

When you set a vacation message, take a moment to ensure that these two options are checked:

Disable responses to indirect mail
– this will keep your vacation message from being sent to the other members of any listservs you are on, and also to your entire library in response to a message sent to all staff

Limit responses to once daily
– this will keep an individual sender from receiving your vacation message more than once a day

Here’s a quick visual reference:

These boxes can be checked even when you aren't setting a vacation message, to prevent future problems.

We have compiled answers to the most frequently asked questions about the State Library's BTOP grant.

We have compiled answers to the most frequently asked questions about the State Library’s BTOP grant.

Why does my library not qualify for free PCs under the grant?

Only libraries who reported fewer than 3.55 PCs per 5,000 people in their service area in the January 2010 survey are eligible for free PCs.

My library was awarded PCs, but not enough to bring it up to this number. Why?

Each library was granted no more than its current number of PCs as reported on the January 2010 survey.

How was my library’s service area calculated?

Each library’s service area was calculated using 2000 Census data. However, if more than one library serves a particular city or town, the population was divided equally among all libraries serving it.

Will my library be able to take advantage of broadband upgrades if it does not appear on the spreadsheet?

Any library within the Verizon EVPL service area will be able to take advantage of discounted pricing on 10Mbps connections.

The State Library has set aside some funds for new network equipment for those libraries that would like to take advantage of this service but did not indicate their interest on the January 2010 survey. However, these funds are limited so equipment is not guaranteed.
